The battle cruiser, renamed Alliance (armed trader Alliance) has, based on information available, chosen to go to the planet Heart to complete repairs and try to earn money. Their records don’t inclue the information that Heart is being blockaded and the population is suffering from heavy metal poisoning, only that it is a progressive frontier planet preparing to graduate from ‘frontier planet status. After breakout they find that six warships have targeted them and when forced to defend themselves, destroys all six. The Alliance’s computers were built and programmed by the Mad Scientists and are far superior to any others in existence and with their help. despite roadblocks and attempts to kill the crew they are able to save the population of Heart from disaster and help break the blockade. Part of their success is due to the influence of the pets belonging to the Captain Olan Durineaus and his wife Myra.
